Getting here - by car
The road network in Telemark in mainly connected by the main roads E-18, E-134 and National Road (RV) 36.
E-18 starts at the Swedish border by Ørje and streches through Oslo, Drammen and along the coast of Telemark to Kristiansand.
E-134 cuts through the landscape from the east top the west, starting at the Oslofjord tunnel and taking the route via Drammen, Notodden, Seljord and upper Telemark to Karmøy on the west coast.
RV 36 takes the route from porsgrunn via Ulefoss and Bø to Seljord, and thereby binds the two E-roads together.
Getting here - by train or bus
If you decide to come to Telemark by train, there are two central lines:
Sørlandsbanen (Southern line) between Oslo and Stavanger, with Bø and Lunde as central stops close to the canal.
Vestfoldbanen (Vestfold line) between Oslo and Skien.

Fjordline calls daily at Langesund (shuttle from Hirtshals, Denmark) and Sandefjord (shuttle from Strömstad, Sweden).
Color Line calls daily at Larvik (shuttle from Hirtshals, Denmark) and Sandefjord (shuttle from Strömstad, Sweden).
Getting here - by plane
The closest airport to the Telemark canal is Sandefjord Airport Torp (TRF) 55 minutes by car from the Hjellebrygga pier in Skien, the starting point for a boat trip on the Telemark canal.
