In the Telemark Canal we are concerned for everyone who lives here and for the visitors to get along and respect each other, making the experience in the Telemark Canal a good one. In general, the boats shall be navigated so that there is no danger to life and health, the environment and material assets. All seafarers must follow local speed limits – not just for small boats. These will vary from municipality to municipality – see overview of local regulations in the Telemark Canal below.
For small boats, but also other vessels, apply:
- A general speed limitation – which is the cautionary norm in which it is made clear that boat drivers should adapt the speed to the conditions.
- A special speed limitation when passing swimmers
- Local speed limits by the municipality
- In addition, there is a rule on safe speed according to the rules of “International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea”
